Biddy Ngandan Wal – Mexican Hat

The original name for this island is Biddy Ngandan Wal, which is a sacred Mirning place, which is also guarded by the yaum walda mininya, osprey sea eagles. They have their great stick nest home next to the island. This is the continuing Jeedara Whale Dreaming journey that makes up the songlines of Jeedara and Yargaryilya, the Seven Sisters.

This is where one of Yargaryilya, the Seven Sisters, hit Jeedara on the head with a rock, as he had not been listening to them. There are many meanings to the word biddy, though this one is for the point of the little island. Ngandan means hit on the head and this left a lump that is now a wal, scar mark from having been hit.
