Bingaring carries several meanings in our language. Bingaring was a Creation being character, both mining, Mirning man, and a Dreamtime white owl called Bingaru. He kept the Mirning laws that were given by Jeedara and he is also a guardian and messenger. But most of all, he is the keeper and protector of our madurba, red ochre, bilyarra, yellow ochre and bilarn, white ochre at our ancestral site now in the middle of the sea.
Yetarngarin, the continental shelf is the place where our ancestors lived, where they walked on what is now the seabed and practiced ceremony at our sacred ochre site below the waves.
